The second day of BEA started out the same as the first, with getting up early and queueing up to get into the exhibit hall. Today was the day of the Heir of Fire signing with Sarah J. Maas. This was basically the reason I went to BEA. Even if I didn't come away with a single other book, as long as I had Heir of Fire I would be happy! I also knew a lot of people would be eager to get this title so I decided to head over to the signing area to line up as soon as the door opened. I was going to do this but ended up getting caught up in the rush and headed to a few publisher booths before heading to the autographing area. I stood around for a minute or two before seeing the line had already been started for Sarah J. Maas. I made my way to the back of the line behind about forty people. It was still only 9:15 at this stage. You can imagine how crazy it got later! I waited in line with some awesome ladies, Steph from The Fake Steph and Jen from YA Romantics. We aventually book after certain people *cough*Octavia and Nikki*cough* used their front of the line passes (Definitely going to get one of them next year!).
Me and the beautiful, beautiful book!
I walked around for a while after this hoping to see a few autographing lines that weren't too long and I could jump onto, but every book I actually wanted to read had a long line and I just could not handle another line! So instead I grabbed a coffee and found a corner of the Javits to sit and start reading! I didn't get very far as I just couldn't concentrate with the noise, but it was nice just sitting alone for a little while admiring all of the books I had gotten!
I decided to head back to the hall and dropped my books off first. After doing that I checked my schedule and basically stood around in a daze trying to figure out what to do next. So it took me a while to realize I was being waved at! I headed over and met Jennifer from Jenuine Cupcakes! This wasn't the first time we had met, I had accosted her outside the Javits the previous day and had time for a quick selfie before having to run. Jen and I had originally talked over twitter because, as you may know, my name is Jennifer Cooke and Jen's name before she got married was Jennifer Cooke! I also love baking cupcakes, it's basically my job for family gatherings, and as you can probably see from her blog name Jen loves to bake cupcakes too (though I never would have come up with such a clever name!). Though we had gotten a selfie the day before, neither of us liked it so Jen waved me over to get another one. We got one (which I actually like this time!) and guess who she was having coffee with? If you guessed anyone other than Sarah J Maas then you were wrong!!
Sarah J Maas (!!!) and me!
I had just lined up for two and half hours to meet her and then got to meet her again, and this time for a selfie! (Don't mind me, I'm certainly not looking my best here!). When I walked over Jen was also talking to Jennifer L. Armentrout and Elena from Novel Sounds and Alexa from Alexa Loves Books. I had already met Alexa at tha YA Blogger'Author party and I've been a follower of Novel Sounds for quite some time so it was lovely getting to meet Elena. Elena had her nails painted to match the cover of I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson and they looked amazing!
They were so pretty!
After that I grabbed a few more books and decided to head back to the hotel early so I could read and relax before the Blogger Picnic. When Nicole got back we headed to the picnic after grabbing Shake Shack to bring with us. The picnic was so fun and relaxing after the hectic day at BEA. It was great to be able to sit down and just talk to other bloggers without having to run to a signing or a drop!
Amazing cake, that tasted phenomenal!
I love Cake Boss!
Andrea, Jen, Katelyn and Alexa: the organisers!
Everybody who went to the picnic.
My lovely roommate, Nicole and me.
After the picnic a few of us headed to McGee's the Irish pub that MacLarens from How I Met Your Mother is based off. I'm only twenty so it was taking a bit of a chance, but I got served woo! (By the way, why is your drinking age so high? I just couldn't get used to the idea that I wasn't allowed to drink!) We had such a fun time with everyone who came!
Nicole and me with requisite selfie.
The lovely bloggers we got a drink with.
The delicious Cosmo I got!
We then headed back to the hotel prepared for the madness that would be BookCon!
The next morning I decided not to get up early and to take my time getting ready and packing the last of my things. There was nothing I had to go to at BookCon so I decided to avoid the rush of getting there early. After re-packing everything and just sitting around for a little while I decided to check out, store my bag and head over to the Javits. I got there and thought it wasn't actually too bad, it was actually quite empty! But then I headed over to the autographing area and realised how I had been in the area of the hall BookCon attendees didn't have access to. I tried to make my way from the signing area over to the Hachette booth and it took my twenty minutes! This would have taken me about twenty seconds the day before! Hachette was near the entrance to the exhibit hall so I just decided to leave, I really couldn't handle the crowds. I attended BookCon for less than thirty minutes this year and it was more than enough time for me!
I grabbed a taxi and headed down to The Strand. I've always wanted to see it and Books of Wonder so I thought this would be the perfect time, while every other book lover in the city was at the Javits Centre. I had so much fun browsing the never ending stacks of books! When I was paying for my purchases I started talking to the man scanning them and talked about my blog with him for about ten minutes! That's not something I've ever done before! It was clear BEA had changed me for the better when it came to feeling free to talk about my blog!
I walked over to Books of Wonder and holy crap guys, the prices there are so expensive!! At least compared to the prices from The Strand and Barnes and Noble. I know it's an independent store, but I ended up only buying two full price books, and even then it was because I was talking to this nice little old lady. Checking the prices now, I could have gotten them from The Book Depository for so much cheaper but oh well, at least I got an awesome Books of Wonder bag!
I walked around the city before and went to Starbucks and Victoria's Secret before deciding to call it a day and heading to the airport early. I had a carry on suitcase filled to the brim with books, plus a suitcase that had about ten books in it with all my other stuff, My handbag had four books in it, plus a bag of books from The Strand and a bag of books from Books of Wonder. I managed to shove the Strand books and the BoW books into my suitcase. It was crazy overweight! I was allowed 23kg but actually had closer to 30kg. The man at the check in desk was so nice though and didn't make me pay! Thus ended an amazing trip to New York and BEA.
I can't wait to go again next year, I'm constantly checking flights and hotel prices. I understand it can be a financial burden, but it's not as expensive as you might think if you get a roommate! If it's at all possible for you to go, then save up all year and book the tickets! It was the most amazing and surprising thing I've ever done! I thought I would be so happy to get all of these amazing books, and I am, but the real highlight of my trip was getting to meet so many bloggers! Meeting authors and publicists was great but there was nothing like getting to meet people who shared so many of my interests and knew exactly what it was like to be a blogger. So this post is dedicated to all the amazing bloggers I got to meet who made my trip so worthwhile! It's because of all of you that I'm planning next years trip and already have my Mam planning on coming with me to Chicago for BEA 2016!
Don't forget to check back on Friday for my BEA book haul. Here's a little taster of what's to come!
Taken Thursday after BEA!
