I first came across this novella when contacted by the author to review it. I had just added Midnight Thief (a book by the same author to be published in 2014 by Disney Hyperion) to Goodreads and was dying to get my hands on it. When Livia contacted me about reviewing Poison Dance I was ecstatic! Midnight Thief sounded amazing so of course I would read a prequel novella! I’m so glad Livia got in contact with me otherwise I would probably have never known about this novella!

Poison Dance is the story of James, an assassin. When the leader of the assassin’s guild is killed his second in command, Gerred, steps up to take command. Only problem is that James and Gerred do not trust each other and Gerred believes James is after his position. This coincides with Thalia, a dancer, asking James for help with killing a man.

The plot of the novella really intrigued me as it progressed. The author could have probably turned this novella into a full length book had she wished. The characters were fun, and the romance shown just sweet enough to leave you wanting more.

Poison Dance is a fun read that has my hopes and expectations even higher for Midnight Thief. This novella shows just how well Livia can write, and believe me that is really well! My only problem with this novella is that I wish it could have been longer. I was enjoying the story and did not want it to end so quickly. I would definitely recommend reading this novella, whether just for the sake of it or to prepare for Midnight Thief. It was a very quick, enjoyable read.
